During the season Milton Keynes Hockey Club player David Breuilly suddenly and unexpectedly lost his wife Sarah Breuilly to a Stroke leaving him with 2 young daughters. Other players and their partners at the club rallied round to help and to attempt to keep the girls lives as stable as possible. Harry’s Rainbow were also fantastic in helping the family and we as a club decided we wanted to show Dave just how much support he had. Daves former club Beeston Hockey Club also wanted to do their part to show their support and get families involved too. On Saturday April 13th 2019 we ran 2 games of hockey, the first involving the fun, mixed, Summer League team Dave plays for Cows against Bogies to get all the girls involved. This game was played in fun, friendly and frantic manor you would expect when Bogies take the field with the game descending into anarchy with 5 minutes to go and the full 16 players stampeding onto the field of play. A goal apiece for Laura Rundle, Will Luther and Tom Johnson was not enough to stop the man of the moment David Breuilly bagging 5 for himself, with some very friendly assists from Cows team mates Paul King and David McMillan to take the game 5-3. The main event was an MK team made up of the players Dave has played with the most over the years taking on him old team Beeston. With Mr Breuilly swapping teams at half time he both won and lost the game 4-2 with Milton Keynes taking the first annual Sarah Breuilly Memorial Trophy picked up by the MK captain Mike Anderson. Alongside the hockey the girls from Harry’s Rainbow, very ably assisted by Georgina Luther and Shar Spencer, also ran a BBQ and a raffle while Emma Hooton ran fun games for the small children to keep them entertained throughout the afternoon. A fantastic effort from Doug Spencer, Mark Ling and Will Luther from MKHC, Bernard Grady from Beeston HC and Emma Gilead from Harry’s Rainbow saw the day raise £2,587.44 and rising for the charity and showed David Breuilly and his daughters that the club spirit will always be there for them when they need it.
The photo’s are David Breuilly himself in action and on the ball, the green and white teams with the dogs are the Bogies v Cows squads and the white and maroon teams are the Beeston and MK teams.
