Groups
We have had several groups happening, supporting our children in a variety of ways.
Our Rainbow Tools help support the mental health and wellbeing of the children in our Rainbow Group. These are aimed at primary school children, are fun to do and give them some tools to use at home.
The Youth Groups for secondary school aged children have enjoyed a variety of calming activities such as pebble painting as well as visits from the drug and alcohol advisory service and a dancer who showed a creative way to manage feelings and thoughts.
Our Young Adult group have had a few visits, with the last session introducing them to flower arranging as a creative activity.
Summer fun
We offer our families the opportunity to have some fun, connect and meet each other in a relaxed environment just before we break for the summer holidays. We do this in 2 ways which allows us to reach all of our 500+ registered children and give them and their families the opportunity to join in.
Our summer peer group encompassed a fair ride, pizza and ice cream to eat, a disco and a selfie booth to have some fun photos to remember the day by. Families told us that they enjoyed the opportunity to meet people they may not have had contact with before and some phone numbers were swapped to arrange further meet ups!
We also took over 80 children and their families to Alton Towers for a soggy summer trip! The trip was offered to those families who are more recently bereaved or registered with us and who may need a bit more support from us. It offers the opportunity to have a day out with no worries or stress and meet others who may understand what they are going through. We provide a private room for them to use as a base, which was very welcome on the day we went as it was a wet day! We also provided refreshments and lunch. Feedback from this trip was all positive, with multiple families commenting on how they had lovely memories from the day, but also allowed them to have memories of their loved ones who have died from previous trips.
Males day
As part of an ongoing project, a day out with males was organised to allow them to connect with each other and feel less isolated in their grief. We visited a local gym where a representative from The Man Cave MK popped by and led a discussion between the males whilst their children were occupied. There was also some team building activities and food to share before we headed off to a local crazy golf course to have some more fun as a group.
This event was vital to connect bereaved males and they all said it helped them to feel supported and allowed them to meet others in a similar situation.
