Celebration and Awards evening November 2019
Our celebration evening is now an annual event of ours, where we are able to say thank you to dedicated volunteers, partners, and supporters as well as sharing our news and achievemnts. It was well attended this year and we also had a special guest, Milton Keynes Mayor Sam Crooks.
Odette, CEO and founder gave a presentation during which we announced a massive rise in registrations of 42% and an income rise of 38% and we heard from some guest speakers who spoke of their experience, of being supported as beneficiaries, as volunteers and as fundraisers of our charity. Brewhouse and Kitchen very kindly donated use of the Campbell Room, which sits at the top floor overlooking the Theatre District (or 12th Street as it’s now called) and presented a mini beer tasting session to our guests. Attendees were also entered into a raffle draw to win tickets to The Brewhouse & Kitchen Michael Buble tribute evening on Saturday 21st December.
We award 6 plaques to those who we feel have really stood out to us this year with their dedication to our cause. We’re very much looking forward to next years celebrations and hope to see you there!
Congratulations to Mark Riley, winner of the BIGGEST IMPACT award for his contribution and commitment to the MK Dons Car Parking Scheme that he created over 3 years ago, and recently expanded to incorporate other Stadium MK events, raising in total over £15,000.
Congratulations to Byron Smith, winner of the HEROES AWARD for his unrelenting support every year across all events. He really deserves recognition for all of his hard work.
Congratulations to Nancy Cook, winner of RAINBOW GROUP VOLUNTEER.
Our Rainbow group volunteers work tirelessly to support our beneficiaries at the regular groups and trips, to ensure they experience a fun, engaging space to be able to share experiences with one another. Nancy has supported the groups since they started, shops every month for all of the food and prepares it all both before and during the sessions. Everyone loves the spreads that she creates and there’s always a wide variety of food to choose from.
Congratulations to INGRAM MICRO, winner of the CORPORATE PARTNER award. We were chosen as the charity of the year for two years at the beginning of 2019 by them, and their fundraising committee have been amazing in coming up with different ways to raise money for us, including quiz nights, cake days , Ice cream Friday and the new annual event of a 16 mile walk in memory of Harry. So far they have raised a whopping £29210 and we have to make a special mention for Rebecca Benzie, who is instrumental in the partnership.
Fundraiser of the Year
We have had some massive fundraisers over the past year, from Milton Keynes Marathon weekend to Skydiving, from taking part in the London to Brighton to walking the Great Wall of China, these people not only go above and beyond in raising money or the charity but also spread much needed awareness of child bereavement along the way. Stephen Bolton who took part in the MK Festival of Running and then ran the MK Marathon in memory of his best friend who passed away last year, he raised well over £3500. There was also Debbie and Caroline who walked the Great Wall of China last month, they have worked tirelessly this year in their fundraising and spreading awareness
It was a tough call on who to award the FUNDRAISER OF THE YEAR award to, but this person has literally spread the rainbow far and wide this year, across both Milton Keynes and Northampton where we also support families. Well done Debbie Davies who’s efforts collectively raised over £10,000
Congratulations also to runners up Stephen Bolton and Caroline Miller.
Children and young people are integral to our community, and involving them in community events and fundraising is so important. We’re so proud of all children and young people who support our cause so this award is a very special one which was presented to Maisa Ahmed as our JUNIOR FUNDRAISER OF THE YEAR for taking an incredible step of cutting off her beautiful long, curly red hair and raised £1400.
Our runner up was 7 year old Jeevan Jesani who ran 1 mile at Jessica’s Rainbow Run in memory of his little brother Veer.
