Over 30 businesses and schools dressed up in bright colours in support of our Wear a Rainbow Day, on Thursday 15th November, collectively raising over £1500!
We launched the campaign this year in support of Children’s Grief Awareness Day, aiming to raise awareness of the needs of grieving children and of the benefits they obtain through accessing support.
Statistics taken in 2015 tell us that 170 children, in Milton Keynes alone, were bereaved of a parent!
On average 1 in 29 children are bereaved of a parent or sibling and that a parent of children under 18 dies every 22 minutes in the UK.
Wear a Rainbow has not only raised over £1000, but most importantly has enabled us to raise awareness of the support we provide to bereaved children and their families in Milton Keynes. This includes regular groups, activities and trips as well as short breaks in our Rainbow Retreat. Everything provided is for free and for as long as the families need it. Feedback shows that these support mechanisms aid the grieving process, combating loneliness and improving confidence and self-esteem.
Thank you to the companies who supported our campaign with special thanks to Network Rail for inviting us in to talk, Sainsburys Argos for allowing us space in the atrium and Energie Fitness for putting on a fantastic rainbow fitness class!!
If you would like to get involved next year please do drop Emma an email so we can keep you updated with the date and what you need to do. We are hoping for even more companies to take part next year making it bigger and better, spreading the rainbow and support we offer across Milton Keynes. Emma@harrysrainbow.co.uk
